Last year, they closed for a few months for renovations, which can seen by the new ceiling tiles. Otherwise, everything else looks pretty much the same. I recently thought about how a coworker mentioned a long time ago how Mexican restaurants make really good fries, so I decided to try them out at a restaurant nearby. The Hamburgesa estilo San Isidro comes with homemade fries (thick cut, hot and tender due to the oil). I would have liked some of the fries to be crunchy. It takes a little bit longer to cook than a taco plate, but it arrives 10-15 minutes later. I've seen hamburgers with avocado and melted cheese but not one I remember with refried beans, so I was intrigued. The burger was thick and tasted classic-style with the beefsteak tomatoes even with all the different toppings. The Tommy's taco can be made with beef, pork or chicken, but beef is classic. The meat and flour tortilla were hot, and the chile con queso was warm. As usual, the complimentary chips and salsa were warm. They still get about 80% of the restaurant full during lunch time, so you won't need to wait for a table to empty.

I'm 4th generation texican. This is my fave neighborhood restaurant for authentic homemade food like my mom used to cook. Good breakfast lunch or dinner. Service is always fast and friendly. It's the type of place the waitress knows your name. and food is always fresh - never cold. The salsa is the best! A little hole in the wall if you blink you miss it. They were closed for a while for renovation but they've been around forever so it was time. We couldn't wait for them to open up.

Closed temporarily due to damage from Beryl, but reopened around September. Good Mexican food.

I'd definitely categorize this place as more of a Tex-Mex restaurant than an authentic Mexican spot, though I've seen some reviews that say otherwise. When we stopped by on a Friday night it was busy but we were told to seat ourselves. Almost immediately, a server brought over chips and salsa (loved that). The chips were warm and the salsa was really good! My boyfriend and I both ordered Tommy's Taco Dinner-one with chicken and one with beef. The plate includes three fajita tacos with sauteed onions, jalapeños and chile con queso, along with a side of rice and beans. The beef was definitely better than the chicken, though they were both just ok. The chile con queso had great flavor, but I found the chicken a little bit dry. The rice lacked flavor in my opinion but my boyfriend thought it was fine. The beans were nothing special but they were good. Service was where things really fell short. Throughout the meal, we needed refills, hot sauce, and extra napkins, but getting our waitress or anyone else to come back to our table was a struggle. When it came time to pay, we had to go up to the counter just to get her attention which was frustrating. Because of that, I'm taking off a star. Overall, this wasn't my favorite place. After months of driving by, I'm glad I finally tried it and it's clearly a popular spot. The food was decent, but not good enough to make me want to return.

WHAT A FIND! In a shopping center, nothing fancy, but my goodness....the food is authentic and DELICIOUS. Fresh chips, salsa on point. Some of the best enchiladas I have had. Rice and beans are the real deal. Highly, highly, highly recommend.

I've been so disappointed since Mi Sombrero suddenly closed. My wife & I had been enjoying this restaurant for years & we were never disappointed! Never had a negative experience. We've been anxiously awaiting their reopening. Checking their website, I was shocked to see the "temporarily closed" notification changed to "Permanently Closed". I only hope the new reopening notice in this review section is true. Houston needs Mi Sombrero! My wife & I need Mi Sombrero! PLEASE!!

Great food! Service is great...we walk in and they know what we drink from just the second time going. Do not worry about the ceiling tiles, it has nothing to do with the owner. The space is rented and the property owner just temps the roof. So, when it rains they have leaks, but never on you or other tables.

Wow, what a hidden gem! I was brought to Mi Sombrero by friends and can't thank them enough. There is a shared parking lot in front of the shopping center and a good number of spots. The restaurant isn't large, but was pretty full, including a large party. The food was some of the best Tex Mex I've had in a while. I ordered a Miller Lite and it was served with a chilled mug; this was the coldest beer I have had in a very long time. For food, I had the Tuity Fruity (1 chicken enchilada, 1 ground beef, and 1 cheese with rice and beans); it was SO good! The chicken enchilada had dark meat which was a really nice and tasty distinction from other Tex Mex restaurants. The entire plate was delicious and service was good (a little slow, but only due to the large party being served). You pay at the counter. I can't wait to go back!
